Toerggelen
Törggelen,
this means to make acquaintance with the "nuien" (new) wine,
in the autumn if the leaves fall
and the days become shorter. However also not too much, although the
word has nothing to do
with "torkeln" but goes back to the dialectal name „Torggel"
(for winepress).

You
can „Törggelen“ between Sterzing and Salurn, in the area of Meran
and Vinschgau.
However, let us say - not without pride - that actually that original
South-Tyroleans Törggelen
is at home in the Eisacktal.

After
a barley-soup or a South-Tyrolean bis, Schlutzkrapfen or Kasnocken, you
will have served a competent
assorted meats plate, house-sausage, „Rippelen", „Surfleisch“
with sauerkraut and potatoes,
or a Bauernmarende, South-Tyroleans bacon, typical cheese, fresh nuts,
apples and grapes, fried chestnuts.
However
food and drink alone is not enough: an accordion-player (with leather
shorts and suspenders) shouldn’t miss......
...
then
the mood finally lifts up, then arises pleasantry and zest for life.
Like
created for the Törggelen
are the rustic castle-cellar-areas of the Kandlburg.
